Garden with Insight v1.0 Help: Soil patch next day functions: calculate mineralization of active organic N in organic matter

Mineralization is the release of nitrogen in organic compounds (in organic matter) to inorganic nitrogen compounds during decomposition of organic matter. Both nitrate and ammonium ions are produced, but the ammonium ions are usually converted quickly to nitrate ions, so the simulation assumes this and makes nitrate the only output. Mineralization of active organic N depends on temperature (warmer is better, an S curve), soil water (more is better), and bulk density (less dense soil is better). The amount of organic matter is also reduced proportionally due to this decomposition.
