Garden with Insight v1.0 Help: Soil daily plant means group


Mean height of plants in patch today: The average height of all the plants in the soil patch.

Mean leaf area index of plants in patch today: The average leaf area index (LAI) of all the plants in the soil patch.

Mean minimum crop management factor of plants in patch today: The average of the parameters for minimum crop management factor among all plants in this soil patch today.

Mean wind erosion factor (flat residue) of plants in patch today: The average of the wind erosion parameters for flat residue among all plants in this soil patch today. Used to calculate the effect of flat residue (in the top soil layer) on soil loss due to wind erosion.

Mean wind erosion factor (standing dead residue) of plants in patch today: The average of the wind erosion parameters for standing dead residue among all plants in this soil patch today. Used to calculate the effect of standing dead plant biomass on soil loss due to wind erosion.

Mean wind erosion factor (standing live biomass) of plants in patch today: The average of the wind erosion parameters for standing live biomass among all plants in this soil patch today. Used to calculate the effect of above-ground live plant biomass on soil loss due to wind erosion.

Patch total above-ground biomass and residue today: The total of: 1) the live biomass in all the plants in this soil patch; 2) the standing dead biomass in all the plants; 3) the flat residue in the soil mulch; and 4) the flat residue in the top soil layer. Influences soil temperature and water erosion.

Total above-ground dead biomass of plants in patch today: The sum of the standing dead residue in above-ground biomass (dry weight) in all plants in this soil patch today. Plant matter (living and dead) on the soil surface reduces soil water loss through runoff and evaporation.

Total above-ground live biomass of plants in patch today: The sum of the live above-ground biomass (dry weight) in all plants in this soil patch today. Plant matter (living and dead) on the soil surface reduces soil water loss through runoff and evaporation.

Total water use for plants in patch today: The total amount of water taken up by all plants in this soil patch today.

Flat residue newly decayed from organic matter blobs today: The amount of flat residue added to the mulch on top of this soil patch today from decay of organic matter blobs (from pulled or harvested plants). Mulch flat residue in time moves into flat residue in the top soil layer.

N as fresh organic in flat residue newly decayed from organic matter blobs today: The amount of fresh organic N in the flat residue added to the mulch on top of this soil patch today from pulled or harvested plants and from decay of standing dead plant residue. Mulch fresh organic N moves into fresh organic N in the top soil layer.

P as fresh organic in flat residue newly decayed from organic matter blobs today: The amount of fresh organic P in the flat residue added to the mulch on top of this soil patch today from pulled or harvested plants and from decay of standing dead plant residue. Mulch fresh organic P moves into fresh organic P in the top soil layer.

N total in above-ground dead biomass for plants in patch today: The sum of organic N in the standing dead residue in above-ground biomass (dry weight) in all plants in this soil patch today.

N total uptake by plants today: The total amount of nitrate taken up by all plants in this soil patch today.

P total in above-ground dead biomass for plants in patch today: The sum of organic P in the standing dead residue in above-ground biomass (dry weight) in all plants in this soil patch today.

P total uptake by plants today: The total amount of labile P taken up by all plants in this soil patch today.

Lowest maximum annual N fertilizer of plants in patch today : Each plant limits the amount of N fertilizer the simulation can apply for its growth in each year. This is the smallest of these numbers and limits the amount of N fertilizer (as pure nitrate) the simulation can add to the soil patch.
